Joseph Charles Manahan
Of Arlington Heights

Joseph Charles Manahan, born August 6, 1953 in Chicago to Charles and Rosemary Manahan, passed away in his Arlington Heights home on February 16 at 3:00 am.

A minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for 35 years; his work spanned from his living room, to the streets of Chicago’s inner city; from the northwest suburban churches he pastored to orphanages in Mexico he help build; he attended to the less fortunate in Asia Minor; gave tenderhearted support to those wounded by tragedy and selflessly celebrated other's triumphs. People knew him as a compassionate counselor, impassioned preacher, astute teacher, wise mentor, fellow laborer, welcomed neighbor, and dear friend. He was affectionately known as “Pastor Joe”, but also “Coach Joe” as a park district athletics volunteer; “Uncle Joe” to 34 nieces and nephews, “Mr. Joe” to hundreds of mentored youth and an adored “Poppa Joe” by his grandchildren. The worn pages of his Bible bore notes to "live a life of love"; carried out in lighthearted banter with strangers, genuine regard of those around him, loyal dedication to those close to him, and a precious devotion to his wife.

He lived a life richly blessing others is greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

Joe is survived by his wife Mary (Willmore) Manahan; his children Daniel (Heather), Benjamin (Margaret), Charles (Krista), Joseph (Mallory) and Michael (Aaron Conrardy); his grandchildren Jacob, Melanie, Andrew, Isaac, Luke, Jeremiah, Alexa, Deborah, David, Lydia and Jenna; his siblings Mary Margaret, Therese, Kathy, Karen, Charles Jr., Tricia and Christopher; his mother and by many nieces and nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by his father and nephew Jordan Styx.
