After WWII, when Red’s ship returned to Bremerton Washington, they were
married. For a brief time she resided in Tacoma Washington, returning to
Chicago when Red’s service as an active officer in the US Navy ended.
Marge was the sister of the late Mary Roth and husband Raymond Roth
(parents of Arthur Roth) and the late Andrew Wingert and wife Jean
Wingert (parents of the late Ellen Vazzano and Susan Meyer).

In addition to family, Marge had a passion for playing golf. She was a
member of Park Ridge Country Club for 36 years. During that time, she
won many tournaments including one named after her (The Margie Mortonson
Open Tournament). This passion was shared with Red. During their retired
years, to avoid Chicago, winters they would travel to Southern
California. One year, out in California, Marge and Red won the Fred
Waring Open (Band Leader “Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians”). Marge
also enjoyed bridge tournaments and loved to entertain. After Red
passed, Marge also volunteered at the Northwest Community Hospital in
