Bernard Seltzer
Of Arlington Heights
Visitation for Bernard Seltzer, 90, will be at The Orchard Evangelical
Free Church, 1330 N. Douglas Ave., Arlington Heights, on Friday,
February 25, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at
10:30 a.m. Private interment will be at Forest Home Cemetery in Forest
Park.
Born June 9, 1920 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the son of Max and Rose (nee
Steinburg) Seltzer, he died Sunday, February 20, at Northwest Community
Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Bernard enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving
overseas first with electronics and radar units, then in public
relations, and finally with the air technical unit.
Bernard graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1942 with
a B.A. in journalism. He used his editorial and management skills in a
variety of positions at Davidson Publishing Company, Dartnell
Corporation, and Independent Grocers’ Alliance, all of Chicago. His
career culminated with the role of executive vice president and chief
operating officer of Wholesale Stationers’ Association based in Des
Plaines. He retired in 1986.
He was a long time resident of Arlington Heights and a member of The
Orchard Evangelical Free Church, where, in addition to serving on
various boards and committees, he served two terms as church chairman.
He also served as a board member of Lydia Children’s Home.
Bernard is survived by his wife Marcia (nee Bell) of Arlington Heights;
children Donald (Sharon O’Donnell) of Wiesbaden, Germany, Janet
(Timothy) Stoker of Orlando, Fl., and Barbara (Andrew) Klotnia of
Hoffman Estates; grandchildren Katherine (Nicholas) Hendrychs of
Williams Bay, WI., David, Emily and Hannah Stoker of Orlando, Fl., Katie
O’Donnell of Greensboro, N.C. and Scott O’Donnell of Wiesbaden, Germany;
his sister Lee Harry and brother George (Marge) Seltzer, all of
Milwaukee, WI.; brothers - and sisters –in – law Norm (Joan) Bell of
Okemos, MI and Gordon (Ruth) Bell of Oregan, IL; and numerous nieces and
nephews and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Morris and David and
sister Bess Hammes.
