Robert “Bob”Aylor Neal P.E.
Of Buffalo Grove

Robert “Bob” Aylor Neal was born on October 16, 1936 in San Angelo, TX to Robert Jack and Georgia Helen (nee Aylor) Neal. He passed Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Neal was a graduate of Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, TX, where he was the band drum major. He then went on to graduate from Texas Arts and Industry University in Kingsville, TX, with a BS degree in mechanical engineering in 1963.

Bob went to work as an engineer with the US Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District. In Operations, he managed dredging along the Gulf Coast of Texas. He was assigned to oversee the construction of the Dredge MacFarland on behalf of the Army Corps of Engineers in Baltimore, MD. In 1969, he transferred to Chicago North Central Division as Deputy Director, Directorate and Chief of Operations Division of Construction and Operations. In this role, he supervised locks and dams and dredging in the Great Lakes and Upper Mississippi. He was active in the Corps of Engineers dredging program throughout his career including construction and overhaul of hopper dredges, minimum fleet studies and the Dredging Research Program. In 1993, he retired from the Corps with 30 years of service. Upon retirement, he pursued his hobbies of genealogy and travel. He was active in the Chicago Porsche Club as crew chief and instructor.

Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy Jane (nee Ahrens) Neal, whom he married on December 21, 1957 in Corpus Christi, TX; his chidren, Janise Elaine Zuehsow (Matt) Libby of Oak Ridge, TN, Robert Alan (Linda) Neal of Brookfield, CT and Karen Faye (Rimas) Milaitis of Mequon, WI; his grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth and Michael David Zuehsow, Allison Nicole, Robert Alex and Ashley Anne Neal, Elizabeth Grace, Mitchell Neal, Michael Robert and Maxwell Rimas Milaitis; and his sister, Betha Jean Cunningham of San Angelo, TX.

Memorial Service 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Kingswood United Methodist Church, 410 W. Dundee, Buffalo Grove. Rev. Margaret Gramley, Ph.D. officiating.
