Michael F. McParlane
Of Palatine, formerly Arlington Heights

Michael McParlane, age 73, was born August 20, 1933 to Michael and Helen Banks (nee McNeil) McParlane in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in New York City and was a graduate of the City College of New York. Michael died Tuesday, February 13, 2007at his home.

Mr. McParlane held an executive position at Packaging Corporation of America where he was employed for 22 years before retiring in 1988. Former employers include American Sugar, Stein Hall, Marbon and American Chicklet Co.

During the Korean War Michael served in the Army and was stationed in France and was in charge of the daily map upgrading in the War Room of European Headquarters where he met many high ranking military officers. He was an avid reader with expert knowledge of WW II world history and many other subjects.

Michael was an accomplished pool player in his youth, and in his later years, enjoyed playing pool at the Arlington Heights Senior Center.

His survivors include his wife of 49 years, Iva I. “Ivy” nee Kee; his children Victoria (William) Szeremeta of Hanover Park, Michael E. (Nancy) McParlane, David R. (Laureen) McParlane both of Palatine, and Martha (James) Curnow of Schaumburg; his grandchildren Claire, Kaitlyn, Emily and David M. McParlane, Christine Szeremeta, Sarah and Kevin J. Curnow.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Helen.

Visitation from 3:00 until 8:00 PM, Sunday, February 18, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 9:15 AM, Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., to St. James Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights for Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial at Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 500 N. Dearborn, Suite 350, Chicago, 60610-4901, www.jdrfillinois.org.
