James Urbanowicz
Of Arlington Heights

James Urbanowicz was born November 22, 1916 in New Canaan, Connecticut, to Stanley and Julia (nee Tyminska) Urbanowicz. He died Monday, February 12, 2007 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Urbanowicz was a retired carpenter. He also worked as an engineer at Northwest Community Hospital, in the maintenance department at Conant High School and was the former owner of the Green Lantern Restaurant in Arlington Heights.

James served as a 1st Lt in the Army during WW II. He was a member of the Illinois Institute of Engineers and VFW Post #981 in Arlington Heights. He was an avid reader and self-taught computer repairman who repaired computers and shipped them to schools and hospitals in Poland. James started a school where he taught heating and building controls for high-rise buildings and also repaired controls in his home. He also volunteered at the Arlington Heights Senior Center teaching computer classes.

James’ survivors include his son Dale G. (Nancy) Urbanowicz, Sharon L. (Jerry) Spetz, step children Joanne (Louis) Cernetic and John Eddleman; ten grandchildren and14 great grandchildren.

James is preceded in death by his wife Mildred.

Visitation from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Sunday at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Funeral service 11:00 AM, Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. Interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
