John M. Kretekos
Of Arlington Heights

John M. Kretekos was born on April 17 in Chicago to Michael and Toula (nee Pappas) Kretekos. He passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 in Arlington Heights surrounded by his wife and daughters.

John was a graduate of Northern Illinois University.  He spent his career as an educator teaching elementary and junior high school students and later as a principal in Community Consolidated School District 59 in Elk Grove.  He was dedicated and devoted to his family and friends and he will be missed by many.     

John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marianne (nee Vasile) Kretekos; his daughters, Laura (Matthew) Kaplan and Susan (Christopher) Skidmore; his grandchildren, Alexis, David and Michael Kaplan and John, Nicholas and Michael Skidmore; his sister, Jean (the late James) Regas; and many nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Nick (the late Olympia), William (Barbara) and George (Priscilla) Kretekos.
 
Visitation  from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.  Funeral services 10:00 am Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 133 S. Roselle Rd, Palatine.  Entombment Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration www.theaftd.org.
