Irene Rataj
Of Wheeling, formerly of Arlington Heights

Irene Rataj was born on July 15, 1923 in Chicago, IL to John and Helen (nee Kopala) Strzalka. She died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Addolorata Villa in Wheeling.

Irene worked for many years for Perfection Heat Treating in Chicago. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was loved by all.

Irene is survived by her children, Greg (Marilyn) Ratay, and Duane (Sally) Ratay; grandchildren Michele Ratay, Brett (Sherry) Ratay, Steve (Emily) Ratay, Alicia (Corey) Olson, and Kevin Ratay, great-grandchildren, William, Alaina, Sage and Travis; Sister, Helen (Marvin) Gunchick; sisters-in-law Shirley Stralka and Virginia Strzalka.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Anthony, Edward, John and Eugene Strzalka; Sisters, Catherine Jurkowski, Sister Anne Strzalka SSJTOSF, and Stephanie Kolbaska; sister-in-law Joan Strzalka; and brothers-in-law Edward Jurkowski and Casimir Kolbaska.

Visitation Friday, January 18, 2013 from 3:00 until 8:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004. Prayers 9:15 am, Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the funeral home proceeding to St. James Catholic Church, 831 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004 for a 10:00 am Funeral Mass. Interment at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
