John M. Tarrant Jr.
Of Buffalo Grove

John M. Tarrant Jr. was born on January 11, 1923 in Lamar, MO to John M. Sr. and Cliff Iona (nee Edwards) Tarrant. He passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in Barrington.

John grew up in Carbondale and Champaign. He was an eager competitor and enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, and golf. As a young man he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in England and Germany during World War II. Returning to the US after serving in the military, John graduated from the University of Illinois and ultimately ended up in the Chicago area, moving to Buffalo Grove in the late 70’s. Following college, he started his career with Spencer Kellogg and retired in 2011 at the age 89.

John enjoyed watching the stock market, telling stories, and “being in the game.” He cherished his many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends-- teaching them to always see the best in people and maintain optimism in tough situations. John had a great sense of humor and was a kind, loyal, and honorable man.

John is survived by his children, Reed (Norm) Kuennen, Kari (David) Jost, Diane (Neil) Schermitzler, Richard (Dena) Geiger D.O., Robert (Catherine) Geiger, Maureen Geiger and Michelle (Steve) Tognarelli; his grandchildren, Amber, Cayson, Garrin, Collin, Keegan, Jessie, Lauren, Rachael, Lisa, Matt, Melanie, Caroline, Eric, Nicole and Kristi; his great-grandchildren, Lexy, Cameryn and Brayden; his sisters, Maxine (the late Robert) Bingham and Ramona (Roy) Bryant; his brother, Dick (Dorothy) Tarrant; his cherished friend, Catherine Maynard; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole D. Tarrant (nee LaPlante).

Memorial visitation is Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 12:00 noon until the time of memorial services at 1:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.
