John R. Herman, Sr.
Of Arlington Heights

John R. Herman, Sr. was born July 13, 1934 in Buffalo, New York to Ralph and Mary (nee Russell) Herman. He died January 19, 2012 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

John was an officer in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1963. After retirement from Amoco oil in 1991, John did volunteer work for AARP and was a former chair of the Illinois state AARP legislative committee. He also volunteered with the Friends of the Library in Arlington Heights, the Arlington Heights Historical Society and was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Arlington Heights and the Arlington Heights Elks Club.

John is survived by his son John R. Herman Jr. of Arlington Heights; His nieces Kathy (Chip) Zapadkas, Dory (Al) Herman-Sample and his nephews Robert Herman and Russell (Kathy) Larko.

John is preceded in death by his wife Gudrun “Lee” (nee Franke) Herman, his brother Ralph Jr., and by his parents.

Memorial Service 11:00 AM, February 3, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church, 302 N. Dunton Avenue, Arlington Heights. Interment Private.
