Gloria Stewart Rebek
Of Arlington Heights
Gloria Stewart Rebek was born on December 6, 1921 in Kansas City,
Missouri to Paul and Clara (nee Fandreger) Stewart. She moved to Chicago
in 1928 and was educated in the northwest side of the city where she
attended Wright Jr. College.
Gloria was an active, life-long member of Our Lady of the Wayside
Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. In 1970, she was hired by Fr.
Mackin as secretary to the principal where she remained until 1986
working with five different school principals. Upon her retirement in
1986, a scholarship fund was established in her honor. The Gloria Rebek
Scholarship Fund is available to Our Lady of the Wayside families to
provide tuition assistance for those who demonstrate financial need.
Gloria always said that her greatest achievement was her family. She is
survived by her daughters; Ruth Stern of Littleton, CO, Nancy Rebek of
Denver, CO, Margaret (the late Mark) Bellamy of Elgin, Mary (partner
Jayne Ryan) Rebek of Chicago; grandchildren; Kristen (Eric) Lanier,
Kevin Stern of Colorado; Katelyn Bellamy of Elgin and one
great-grandson, Calan Lanier. She is also survived by her brother, Paul
Stewart of Deerfield, IL and many nieces and nephews who loved her
dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1986 and her
daughter, Sara, in 1981.
Gloria had a kind heart and a generous spirit. She had many good friends
and was a good friend to many.
Gloria died peacefully Wednesday, January 11, 2012 surrounded by her
family.
Visitation will occur from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, January 15, 2012
at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road,
Arlington Heights, IL. On Monday, January 16, 2012 prayers will take
place at 8:45 am, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., followed by a Funeral
Mass at 9:30 am at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 434 W. Park
St., Arlington Hts., IL 60005. Burial will take place at St. Michael the
Archangel Cemetery in Palatine, IL.
