Donald E. Normann
Of Arlington Heights

Donald E. Normann was born April 7, 1931 to Emil and Margaret (nee Thompson) Normann in Chicago. He died Thursday, January 19, 2011 in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Normann lived in Chicago and Cary, Illinois during his younger years. He attended Taft High School where he was on the swim team and played golf. He spent his senior year at Crystal Lake High School, golfed, and graduated in 1948. After high school, Donald lived in Falls Church, Virginia building homes and Reddington Beach, Florida where he managed the La Playa Hotel. He moved to Arlington Heights in 1964 where he met and married his loving wife Ruthann (Hallett).

He played professional golf for many years and then became the owner of his own construction company. In 1977 he became the plant engineer for DoAll Company in Des Plaines and remained there until his retirement. After retirement he worked for Deerbrook Limousine, part- time.

Donald was married to his best friend, Ruthann, and the love of his life. They shared many interests together especially in later years. He always supported his wife in her many activities at Prospect High School by being a chaperone. When their children were young they were heavily involved with Scouting and Little League. They delivered meals on wheels, volunteered at Shelter, Inc. and the Arlington Senior Center, made cut glass stepping stones, and traveled extensively. His real passion was being an avid golfer, which he took up as a small boy with his father. His son, Grant, always wanted to beat Dad! He was proud to still be able to shoot his age at 79 years old. He loved his many golfing buddies and being with the “guys” at Sam’s on Tuesdays. For years, he always shared his golfing expertise with anyone who needed help. Most recently, he delighted in helping his grandson, Taylor, improve his golf game.

He served as a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights where he has been a member for over 40 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 101058 in Glenview and a Medinah Temple Shriner since 1969. In 2003, Don became a member of the Elks Lodge.

Donald was a devoted and loving husband and father. Donald is survived by his wife, Ruthann (nee Hallett), whom he married December 11, 1964 in Arlington Heights; his children Grant (Shelley) Normann of Anderson, Indiana, Keith (Robin) Normann of Leavenworth, Kansas, Debra Normann Larimore(Fred), Indianapolis, Kim (Sergio) Vallejo, Lakeland, California; Sister Barbara (Jim) Cimbura of Longmont, Colorado; Brother-in-law Jim Hallett of Arlington Heights; grandchildren, Rob, Taylor, Austin, and Jessica: several nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was a father figure to Michael Liberio, Mark Fript, Kathy Neddo and Debbie Kaiser.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful loving daughter Brooke Traci Normann, father, Emil Nicoli Normann, mother, Margaret C. (Thompson) Normann and brother, Raymond.
