Roger
William Grandt
Of Arlington Heights
Roger W. Grandt was born on September 29, 1925 in Arlington Heights to
Charles F. and Martha (nee Neumann) Grandt. He passed away on January
20, 2011 at the Lutheran Home and Services in Arlington Heights.
Mr. Grandt owned Grandts Super Shell station in Arlington Heights for
over 50 years. He was a third (of current fifth) generation member of
St. Peter Lutheran Church where he was an active member. He was a
founding member of Lutheran Laymen’s League (LLL), Chairman of the
Trustees, Chairman of the School Board and a member of the mission that
founded St. Peter Lutheran Church, Middleburg, South Africa.
Additionally Roger served in the Navy during WW II and was a member of
the Arlington Heights American Legion Merle Guild Post #208 and
Arlington Heights VFW Post #981.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine (nee Marr); his
children, Craig (Deborah) Grandt , Tracey (George) Surprenant and his
daughter-in-law, Christine Grandt; his grandchildren, Scott and Todd
Grandt, Nicole (John) Massouras, Mandy Grandt, Ashley (Steven) Hubbell,
Allison Grandt, Jessica, Grant (Danielle) and Geoffrey Surprenant; his
great grandchildren, Brooke, Emma, Kate, Jake and Baby Hubbell; his
brother Wilbert Grandt and his step-brother Bob Bentz.
Roger is preceded in death by his son David Grandt.
Visitation from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the
Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd.,(four blocks south
of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights and from10:00 AM until the time of
Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 24, 2011 at St. Peter
Lutheran Church, 111 W. Olive St., Arlington Heights. Interment Memory
Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church
or St. Peter Middleburg, South Africa c/o St. Peter Lutheran Church.
