Angelo J. Capulli
Of Arlington Heights

Angelo J. Capulli, formerly of Mt. Prospect, was born November 14, 1930 in Chicago to Daniel and Rose (nee Del Priore) Capulli. He died Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Capulli was employed by the Arlington Heights Park District from 1970 to 1995 as Director of Parks and Planning. Prior to Arlington Heights, he worked for Evanston and Chicago Park Districts. He was a board member of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) and served as the President of the IPRA Park and Natural Resources Section, was a past president of the Midwest Institute of Park Executives (MIPE), past chairman of the Great Lakes Park Training Institute. He is a recipient of the Professional of the Year Award from MIPE and the Professional Citation Award from IPRA. He earned a national reputation for mentoring young professionals in the park and recreation field.

Angelo was a Paul Harris Fellow and Charter Member and Past President of the Arlington Heights Sunrise Rotary Club and was awarded Rotarian of the Year. He was an active fund raiser for Northwest Special Recreation Association and Clearbrook Center and had served as a trustee for the Arlington Heights Wheeling Township Cemetery. Angelo was a volunteer and original member of the Arlington Heights Festival Committee. He also served in the Army during the Korean War.

Angelo is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ramona “Mona” nee Saladino; his daughter Laura (Dan) Bessey of West Chicago; his grandchildren Alexxa, Brianna and Danielle Bessey, Nicholas and Carly Capulli; and his daughter-in-law Barbara Capulli.

He was preceded in death by his son Daniel and his parents.

Visitation from 3:00 until 9:00 PM, Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights and Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at St. Edna Catholic Church 2525 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights from 3:00 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM, at St. Edna Church. Entombment Private.
