Donald L. Schmitt

Donald L. Schmitt was born March 26, 1928 in Chicago to Joseph and Irene (nee Mayzure) Schmitt. He died January 5, 2009 in Ocala, FL.

Donald founded, owned and operated Schmitt Nursery in Prospect Heights from 1968 until 1989; afterwards he remained active as a grower in Beloit, WI. He was a long time vendor at the farmers market in Oak Park. Donald served in the Army during WWII.

Survivors include his wife Sylvia (nee Brumleve), whom he married November 21, 1964; children Rachel (Steven) Kaiser of Highland Park, Johanna (Carl) Cerny of Arlington Heights, David (Rachael) Schmitt of Arlington VA; grandchildren Hannah and Fiona Kaiser, Evelyn and Reily Cerny, Madelin and Vivienne Schmitt; siblings Dorothy Raupp and Jack Schmitt.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Lents.

Visitation from 3 until 8 PM, Sunday January 10, 2010 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.)
