John J. Kaplafka was

1935 in Shenandoah,
PA to John and
Elanor (nee
Kuchinski) Kaplafka.
He passed away on
January 3, 2009.
John was a 1953
graduate of the
Milton Hershey
School. He served
during the Korean
War as a Captain of
Recon Marines. He
was Past District
Governor of Lions
Dist. 31J in North
Carolina and Past
President of the
Arlington Heights
Lions Club. John
helped start both
Girl’s Haven and the
Zoological Park in
N.C. He also
volunteered at Our
Lady of the Wayside
Church and the
Arlington Heights
Senior Center where
he taught wood shop.
He is survived by
his wife of 47
years, Grace, nee
Kirk; his children,
Virginia (Doug)
Butcher of Beckley,
WV, John A.
(Deborah) Kaplafka
of Nashua, NH and
Robert Kaplafka of
Arlington Heights;
his grandchildren,
Brian, Elliot,
Dustin, Jessica and
Katherine; his
sister, Dorothy
(Richard) Leach of
Ringtown, PA; and
his brothers, Robert
J. (Paulette)
Kaplafka of
Sarasota, FL and
Daniel (Christina)
Banonis of
Shenandoah, PA.
