Ruth Flatebo
Of Grayslake

Ruth Flatebo was born on July 27, 1914 in Bergen, Norway to Nils and Magda (nee Bernson) Ovre-Eide. She died Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center, Skokie, Illinois.

Mrs. Flatebo was a homemaker and a member of the Sons of Norway. She is remembered by many friends and family as the lady who loved to knit. Over her lifetime she no doubt knit hundreds of sweaters, hats, mittens and many other creative works of her heart and hands for many she knew and others she didn't. To her grandchildren she is "Bestemor," the Norweigan word for grandmother. This endearing name for her was adopted by many others who also called her Bestemor. Ruth’s life was characterized by gratefulness. A thankful heart for everything and everyone. Especially these last years so thankful to the Lord for the blessing of her husband Martin, who took such wonderful care of her. She said countless times, "I have so much to be thankful for...I have it so good."

Ruth's last days were spent under the wonderful care of the staff at The Hospice Care Center in Skokie.

She is survived by her husband Martin Flatebo, whom she married on June 18, 1946; her sons Pete (Cindy) Flatebo of Grayslake and Nels (Karen) Flatebo of Buffalo Grove; her grandchildren Carrie Weber, Heidi Flatebo, Emily Flatebo and Ryan Arndt; and her brother Per Ovre-Eide.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Mary, Gunnar and Johan.
