Robert W. Johnson
Of Arlington Heights
Robert W. Johnson, Lt. Col., USAF Ret., age 84, of Arlington
Heights. Born in Drake, ND, January 26, 1920 to Oscar and Amanda
Johnson, he died at The Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, Monday,
January 24, 2005. Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irene,
daughters Meredith Lorenzen of Munster, IN, Barbara (Wesley) Pomeroy of
Centennial, CO and Joan (Alan) Ahr of Palatine; Son Christopher (Kelly)
of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren Erik and Brittney Johnson, Janna and
Karen Lorenzen, Lauren and Chelsea Pomeroy. Step grandchildren Todd,
Leah, and Paul De Wenter; sister Dorothy Burnham of Mesa, AZ.
Robert served his country in WWII with the US Army Air force, 99th
Bomber Group in Europe flying B-17 bomber missions. Shot down over
occupied France, evaded with assistance of the French underground, but
captured six weeks later and spent the remainder of the war in Stalag
Luft # 1 at Barth on the Baltic. Rejoined USAF post war and served 21
years, followed by 23 years as an inspector for the Department of
Defense.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 AM at the Glueckert
Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of
Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Visitation Wednesday from 10:00 AM
until the time of services. Interment will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery,
Minnesota.
